How to decide if you should repair or replace your windshield

No matter how careful you are, unpredictable things to happen when you are driving. A small rock or bump in the road could disrupt your day by causing a flat tire or a crack in your windshield. When you get a flat tire, it’s pretty obvious that it needs to be replaced right away, but with a damaged windshield it’s hard to know if you should repair it or replace it. Today we’re going to help you decide when it’s the right time to replace your windshield.

Windshield Repair in Phoenix

When your vehicle’s windshield gets smaller chips and cracks, you can usually get away with getting them repaired. Most of the time a chip or crack can be safely repaired if it can be covered by a dollar bill. There are a few exceptions to this rule. You might want to replace the windshield if: the crack or chip is directly in the driver’s line of sight, there are more than three cracks or chips in the glass, the damage is at the edge of the windshield or the windshield is old and covered with tiny divots.
When you have a chip or crack in your windshield, it is important to get it repaired as soon as possible. A small chip can spread across the windshield if you hit a big pothole or another rock or pebble hits the same area. It can be a gamble to continue driving when you already have some damage to your windshield.

According to the article, a crack in a windshield can usually be repaired if it can be covered by a dollar bill. This is good to know since I noticed a large crack on the passenger’s side of my windshield just the other day. It’s still smaller than a dollar bill though, so I’ll make sure to have it repaired before it has the time to spread and become too big to repair.
